Overview

The role is responsible for working with various levels of management to ensure all fleet and assets programs and processes are executed as intended. This will include using deep analysis of the metrics to create action plans and hold the appropriate parties accountable for their execution. The role will require occasional interaction with Senior Leadership to provide progress updates and present new initiatives as they arise.

Responsibilities

Creates and tracks the plan for implementing the national strategy, monitors and communicates safety, fleet & asset management metrics including, but not limited to: vehicle safety and condition reporting, preventative maintenance schedule compliance, tool inventory auditing.
 
Interacts with Senior Leaders and work with region/field personnel to provide direction for improved metrics based on trends and performance observations.
 
Develops annual forecasts, monitors spend, provides weekly reports, and action plans for the regions and field offices to ensure cost plans are met.
 
Analyzes reporting and trends to provide insights and direction to various levels of management.
Creates region/field action plans to address performance gaps and hold responsible parties accountable to the action plan through regular touch-bases.
 
Leads conference calls and meetings as needed to communicate performance and re-balance direction as needed.
 
Collects data from multiple sources and arranges the data to build the monthly national plan to ensure productivity and compliance in the field.
 
Provides assigned regions with fleet and assets strategy to ensure success.
 
Confers with department heads concerning such problems as accident rates and abuse of equipment, and recommends measures to improve safety performance and equipment life.
 
DOT Compliance: create and maintain Driver Qualification files (monthly updates), Track and Audit Drivers Logs (monthly), MVR (annual), Random Testing (quarterly), safety training.
 
Work with company location management (DCM, Ops and RVP) and Dedicated Contract Carriage providers as part of supply chain solution to custom design, negotiate and facilitate transportation. As well as delivery functions for each DC, establish rates, delivery protocol, implement customer requirements, outline dedicated driver requirements, and optimize delivery routes per territory; to investigate and make recommendations regarding cost savings (i.e. backhaul), adjust partnership with seasonal spikes and storm surge delivery demands; collect, monitor and analyze productivity metrics (KPI).
 
Negotiate with vendors for equipment specifications, pricing, contracts, delivery, maintenance, projects (curtains, etc.), Maintain equipment database - Leases, Term dates, Start and end dates, Rates; CER (database tracking, specs)/Asset Disposal (database tracking, all aspects of selling owned units ), create and maintain files. Manage excess equipment in the company by internal move or outside sale. Manage equipment finance company relations and terms.
 
Negotiate with vendors to establish company-wide pricing discounts for the purpose of moving less than truckload (LTL) or full truckload (TL) shipments. Manager and administrator of Transportation Management System for movement of LTL freight; assist in or complete negotiation of claims and invoicing variations.
 
Vendor liaison; provide invoice assistance for equipment service and end of lease return repairs.
 
Special projects as required to improve operational or safety functions.
 
Ensures safe and cost-effective transport of products and personnel.
 
Leads and directs the work of other employees.
 
Analyzes transportation and distribution systems and procedures to ensure the efficient and economical delivery of the organization’s product.
 
Reviews proposals and makes recommendations for modification in rates and transportation regulations.
 
Evaluates freight classifications, tariff rates and operating efficiency to ensure the proper delivery of products.
 
Plans and coordinates fleet operations, including acquisition, scheduling, maintenance service and repair, and disposal of trucks, and hires common carriers (third-party transportation companies) as appropriate.
 
Responsible for managing and maintaining the fleet of vehicles and equipment, for making equipment available when needed at job sites, and for managing utilization of our fleet of trucks and off-road equipment

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree (four year college or technical school): Preferred

Experience:

  • 5-10 years of experience in related field

Preferred Skills:

  • High degree of proficiency with all MS office programs including Outlook, Excel and Word
  • Previous safety, fleet or asset management experience
  • Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM), helpful

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to solve problems and handle multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
  • Strong analytical and leadership skills
  • Ability to read, utilize and create reports as needed
  • Computer and database skills; Microsoft Office suite, specifically MS Project
  • Ability to work well with others in a team setting to deliver high performance results including facilitating meetings and providing training
  • Effective time management skills
  • Detail oriented and organizational skills
  • Travel, as needed (about 25%), including overnight travel
