Overview

PrimeSource Building Products, a national distributor of building materials, is seeking candidates for an entry-level store service merchandiser to service the Charlotte, NC area.

 

Merchandisers work independently and responsible for merchandising fasteners (nails and screws) in assigned home improvement retail stores. The Merchandiser will report to the In Store Service Manager (ISSM) of the assigned territory. Regular work hours are Monday through Friday, eight hour shifts. Our Merchandiser will drive to various customer locations using their own personal vehicle. We offer an auto reimbursement program for mileage driven.

 

Once onsite, the primary job responsibilities include down-stocking products, installing signage, maintaining plan-o-gram layouts, pricing displays, and training store employees on the different fasteners.

 

This role plays an important part for our company overall because their efforts are critical to our sales goals and our customer’s profitability. Our Merchandisers represent PrimeSource in the field, are the first line of customer service, and maintains an important partnership between our customers and vendors.

Responsibilities

Overall, the Merchandiser provides onsite service at customer locations and assist our customer's local personnel increase sales and profitability of our products.

  • This position requires the ability to repeatedly lift 50 lbs, carry 50 lbs up and down on ladders, working on concrete surfaces, bend, kneel, and stoop.
  • The ability to work efficiently and effectively without direct supervision is a must.
  • Merchandising representatives will work in multiple stores daily throughout their designated area.  
  • Stocks shelves, racks, cases, bins, and tables with new or transferred merchandise.
  • Downstocks, open cases and merchandise on shelves or on floor where required. This involves downstocking product (up to 50lb) from the overhead locations using customer provided rolling ladders (non-electrical).
  • Cleans display cases, shelves, and aisles of discarded packaging material.
  • Fully implements and maintains cross merchandising as set forth by In-Store Service Manager (ISSM) management and customer approved/mapped locations. Obtain additional locations when possible.
  • Repairs and/or replace damaged merchandise. Keep repair supplies replenished through ordering from ISSM and DC Ops managers.
  • Re-labels or reinstalls shelf talkers, cartons, signage, nail boards, product literature, etc., as needed to ensure PrimeSource merchandise is always professionally displayed and appealing to the customer.
  • Takes inventory or examine merchandise to identify items to be reordered or replenished- Provide Inventory Correction Worksheets (ICW) and email communications to appropriate management and store personnel.
  • Designs and set up advertising signs and displays of merchandise on shelves, counters, or tables to attract customers and promote sales.
  • Establishes relationships with key personnel at each customer location (store manager, assistant manager, department manager, receiving manager, Inventory Management Associate).
  • Identifies additional sales and profit opportunities within the store and communicate this information to ISSM.
  • Conducts product knowledge meetings (PKs) with local store personnel and customers.
  • Attends customer events when they pertain to our company and product line. This includes product knowledge sessions, tool demonstrations, contractor/customer selling events, open house/grand openings, etc.
  • Answers customers' questions about merchandise and advice customers on merchandise selection.
  • Maintains call schedules established by ISSM and travel to multiple assigned locations within the day/week/month, be punctual and able to manage time accordingly.
  • Calls in and out at every store (time punch) to automated time tracking system and check voice mail or similar system frequently. Keep hours log to ensure required work hours are being met.
  • Completes service call report on company supplied tablets for each store visit with a signature from Department Head, Assistant Store Manager, or Store Manager. Inform store management that you are in the store and what tasks you have completed for them.
  • Checks on open orders, do random inventory checks and check for bar code violations. Update all price labels every 90 days without exceptions.
  • Coordinates merchandise returns with Distribution Centers (DCs) and ISSM.
  • Ability to use mobile ordering cart and/or handheld inventory management device, and use all functions relating to our product line.
  • Executes set up and display of special promotions and new items (wingstacks, imports, new product roll outs, etc…).
  • Store Resets – involves removing all products from display, moving steel beams (racking), returning product to new display location, installation of new POP, and price labels. Occasional overnight travel and overtime may be required for resets and special projects.
  • New store set up responsibilities – including installation of steel beams (racking), display of entire product line, obtaining cross merchandising, installing POP, meeting store management team, checking on backup orders, and ensuring completion prior to deadlines.
  • Requisition merchandise from supplier based on available space, merchandise on hand, customer demand, or advertised specials.
  • Works and communicate with ISSM, account managers, customer merchandise service teams, and management to ensure service and projects are being executed to standards.

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to drive and use personal vehicle throughout assigned territory to service stores. Vehicle, insurance and must be in compliance to receive full car allowance reimbursement program.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must be able to work safely in a retail construction environment.
  • Must have strong customer service skills.

Education & Experience:

  • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Required: Two or four year college degree preferred for advancement.
  • One to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pluses:

  • Have working knowledge of and /or experience using basic hand tools.
  • Have knowledge of and/or experience working with building materials, lumber, and fasteners.
  • Have previous work experience in a home improvement retailer or other big box retailer type environment.
